Topics

Papers featuring Caligid copepods, and Lepeophtheirus salmonis, Caligus spp. and non-Caligid parasitic copepods and Branchiura (e.g., Lernaea, Ergasilus and Argulus) as well as papers on specific life stages (adult vs. larvae) or methods of study such as mathematical modeling and molecular techniques are invited. These may not be given individual sessions but will be integrated into the program to facilitate the general understanding of sea lice biology relative to the goals of the research.

The topics covered by the conference will include but are not limited to the following:

Biology
  • Morphology, physiology, growth, reproduction, genetics
  • Taxonomy, new species/host records, evolution, behaviour
  • Molecular studies: genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics
Epidemiology
  • Adult and larval ecology and wild fish lice monitoring
  • Mathematical modelling: spatial and temporal dispersion, plankton, hydrographic
  • Environmental factors/interactions, ecosystem studies
Host-Parasite Interactions
  • Host pathology, immune response, host location and transfer
  • Relationships to other pathogens
Management
  • Chemotherapy, resistance, immunotherapy, vaccines
  • Biological control, integrated pest management
  • Farmed fish lice monitoring, regional regulatory sea lice management strategies/programs
General
  • Emerging issues
  • Social context and public policy
